Ahoy Kitten Krew, welcome to something new the Kaptain’s log! Take a look back at the month of May and all the things that have happened. As the months continue I’ll probably adjust this with some nips and tucks, so please let me know in the comments the things that are interesting, the things you don’t care about and the things I’ve missed. I hope to make this insightful to what’s going on with us both as Fosters and with the livestream as well
Milestones
What a way to start May, which happens to be Sam & Betty’s birthday month, we passed 10,000 Followers on Mixer in the second week! We used that as a springboard to try, for the third time to apply for partner on Mixer but once again were denied. In short, Mixer just doesn’t know what to do with us, or how they could possibly make money selling ads on … kittens LOL.
Partnership with mixer is however not a big deal for us, thanks to our amazing community we’re able to help dozens of kittens every year and help them find new homes. Which leads me to…
Donations

We received 4 bags of litter, several cases of Royal Canin canned wet food, bottles for bottle feeding, and on the fun side of a Cinema Box. Which we’ve made quick use of to start displaying things like the kitten’s names, how old they are, as well as important messages!

Improvements and updates
In an attempt to give the stream a more “segmented” show like feel I’ve created a few animated triggers for events like releasing the kittens from the pen or when we transition from Night Vision to our daytime set up. I added a New Good Meowning Animation update to make the sun cat face fly across the screen.
We branched out on our social media to add a Tik Tok channel.
Back when we were fostering the Orange is the New Black Kittens and then again with the Stranger Things kittens artist Helen Barelenka created some clawsome artwork based on those kittens. We finally got permission to print one of her pieces and officially started a cat based Art Wall which can be seen on our live stream.
For better or worse we added closed captioning through pixelchat.tv and while it often has very comedic interpretations of what it thinks its heard it seems to be doing pretty well, and looks a lot nicer than most of the alternatives I’ve seen.
Our Catstronaut got an upgrade as well and now adds some added flavor and prompts to our Community Cat Chats. I hope to add more intelligent functionality to him as well.
In attempt to bring the interactive functionality, we have on Mixer to people on other platforms we joined Streamloots. Consider this a soft launch however, I wouldn’t advise anyone to purchase cards just yet, as there’s a lot of work to do to get it up to speed.

Kitten Updates
Of course, the most important thing is the KITTENS! While the pandemic raged and stay at home orders affected people’s lives, a lot of chaos came up. Adopters displaced from work or other unforeseen situations were forced to return recently adopted kittens. Such was the case with Cherry & Rhubarb and Nova & Orion.
May was a tough month for that reason, we not only had to double our effort for two separate litters but in a weird twist of fate Nova for whatever reason came back to us agitated and hissing at everyone including her son Orion. After a few days, it became clear she was not going to go back to the mother she once was. Nova and Orion were split up and, since our foster house was full we had to send them off to other fosters. They did end up finding forever homes, Nova got to be a solo queen and Orion found a new foster buddy to be besties with.
Throughout May the foster litter in our main room were Sun & Jin – the LOST kittens! They were some of the most beautiful and affectionate kittens we’ve ever had, because Amanda bottle feed them from one day old.
